The ‘Centre for Investment Laws’ was established as a university-level research centre in 2021, by the Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU) in response to the growing need for investment laws through leadership and capacity building in India and particularly the State of Tamilnadu. In September 2021, the government of Tamilnadu generously granted Rs. 10 lakh towards the establishment of this centre to commence the research activities.
The aims and objective of the research centre is
- To foster research and help develop strategic thinking on investment laws in the digital era.
- To analyse the relevant legal issues on Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) and Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in India.
- To organize lectures, seminars, webinars, symposia and conferences to disseminate the new developments on investment laws with different stakeholders.
- To assist policymakers and develop as a think-tank in future.
- To assist in the creation of a legal innovation ecosystem in TNNLU and thereby facilitate investment in legal innovations and technology.
- To encourage and support interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research in investment laws.
- In furtherance of the aim and objective stated above the proposed research centre intended to perform the following functions, they are Research Consulting services (pool of resources comprising of the sector and functional experts to be drawn by the regulators and also to carry out consulting assignments for regulators) Training
- Knowledge management/repository of information
- Knowledge exchange/capacity building
Vision Statement
- To play a more significant role in the promotion and development of Investment Laws.
- To become a regional research hub and thought leader for research on and teaching investment laws.
- To become the advisor, guide, and provide consultancy services to every investor looking to make investments in India and the State of Tamilnadu.
Mission Statement
- To create a web portal to disseminate knowledge resources related to investment laws including updates on ongoing trade negotiations and disputes.
- To collaborate with varied research centres, clubs within and outside the University for the promotion of start-ups and entrepreneurship.
- To develop intellectual resources and guides that are at the cutting-edge of research in investment laws.
- To provide internship opportunities to graduate and post-graduate students on a periodic interval in every academic year.
